We will be hosting our annual Mark Pruitt Run on Thursday, April 19th, 2012. Since the early eighties, our chapter has hosted this event (formerly called the Piccolo Run) in which brothers run a relay from the original campus in Wake Forest, North Carolina to today’s Reynolda campus in Winston-Salem. The Mark Pruitt Run for the MacKay Foundation for Cancer Research has raised a significant amount of donations in recent years and we look forward to continuing our success with the help of your generous contributions. Our run last year helped the MacKay Foundation gift $54,000 in December, 2011 to Wake Forest School of Medicine to benefit BMT, leukemia and hematology research and education.

The run will begin on Thursday afternoon, April 19th, at the original Wake Forest campus and will end Friday, April 20th, around noon in front of Wait Chapel. Different relay teams comprised of Kappa Sigma Brothers will run the total distance of 120 miles in approximately twenty hours. We encourage you to show your support by joining the Fraternity and Barbara Mackay Vinson in celebrating the completion of the run with a cookout on Friday in front of the Kappa Sigma House at noon. Feel free to contact us at kappasigmadeltaomega@gmail.com if you have any questions.

On Friday, April 27th, the Delta Omega Chapter will hold it's annual "Be Bald, Beat Cancer" event, which raises money for the CureSearch Organization. Individuals participate by voluntarily having their heads completely shaved by campus barber Dean Shore. Brothers and friends grill and watch while the heads are being shaved to raise funds for childhood cancer research. This year, the fundraiser will be moved from the Fraternity patio to the patio on the lower campus quad to allow for more bald heads and to further encourage fellow Wake Forest students to participate. In addition, the Delta Omegas are receiving support from both the Chi Omega Sorority and the Wake Forest Baseball team for this yearly event. For pictures of last year's event, click here. If you would like to make a donation to support the cause, please direct yourself to the donate tab on the right of this webpage. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact Storm Saponaro at saposa9@wfu.edu.

Family and a Few Close Friends

On March the 3rd, a man with a message any Fraternity brother can learn from visited our chapter. Bronson Sallie the 3rd was initiated as Honorary Brother Sallie of the Delta Omega chapter of Kappa Sigma here at Wake Forest. Because Brother Sallie’s father was a Siggie many years ago and has unfortunately been diagnosed with cancer, Bronson asked our chapter to initiate him so he can share this special bond with his father. As his father fights for life, his fraternity brothers and family are the ones beside his hospital bed. When Mr. Sally spoke to our chapter and most recent pledge class he explained that in the end of life, all we have is “Family and a Few Good Friends.” Our Chapter truly saw how important the bond of brotherhood is in life and will carry these moral lessons with us on our journey to better our school and community while working together to overcome life’s most difficult complications. We thank Brother Sally for showing us how special it is to be a Kappa Sigma Brother in the Delta Omega Chapter. Mr. Sallie’s message of loyalty was instilled in all Delta Omega Brothers.

Congratulations to our Class of 2011 Graduates!
